What is the color rendering index?

The color rendering index (CRI) of a light source is a quantitative measurement of its ability to maintain the color appearance of an illuminated object compared to an ideal or natural light source. Generally speaking, CRI measures the ability of a light source to display object colors "realistically" or "naturally" compared to similar reference sources (incandescent lamps or daylight). Its rating range is 1-100, with 100 being the highest.

The new Light Emitting Diode (LED) systems, CRI, have regained interest. These systems typically have relatively low CRI, but can maintain a good color appearance and pleasing visual appeal.

What is the importance of color rendering index (CRI)?

As is well known, Color rendering index (CRI) is a measure used to evaluate the accuracy of light sources in presenting object colors. This index measures the degree to which a light source matches natural light in terms of spectral composition, color temperature, etc. The higher the value, the more accurately the light source can present the color of the object.

Why do objects look different under certain lighting conditions compared to natural light or other light sources?

Objects look different under different CRI lighting. The lower the CRI, the less accurate the color appears. Sometimes it can lead us to make mistakes - such as pairing black socks with navy blue socks. We hope to accurately see the color, which is related to the color rendering index (CRI) of lighting. A CRI value of 80+will effectively depict colors and finishes. When the most accurate color rendering is crucial, it is recommended to use a 90+CRI value.

The Rise Lighting has lighting products with high CRI, please choose your favorite product in our website. The most important, please feel free to contact us, don't hesitate, lovr it and do it!
