Firstly, we need to know that in order to adjust the brightness of an LED, the current flowing through the LED must be changed, because the magnitude of the current is approximately linearly related to the luminous flux. The higher the current, the brighter the LED will emit light, while the smaller the current, the darker the LED will emit light; The fundamental difference lies in the fact that the thyristor dimming method uses the chopping function of the thyristor to adjust the input voltage of the dimming drive power supply, thereby changing the output current of the dimming power supply. 0/1-10V is supplied with a 0-10V voltage change through a 0-10V dimmer to the 0-10V dimming power supply, thereby changing the output current and achieving the goal of brightness change.

SCR dimming has been applied in incandescent lamps and energy-saving lamps since its early days, and is also the most widely used dimming method for LED dimming in the current market. Its working principle is to generate a tangential output voltage waveform by chopping the input voltage waveform through the conduction angle. By applying the principle of tangential direction, the effective value of the output voltage of the thyristor dimmer can be reduced, thereby reducing the power of ordinary loads (resistive loads).

Thyristor dimmers have the advantages of high adjustment accuracy, high efficiency, small size, light weight, and easy remote control, and dominate the market. Most manufacturers' products are of this type of dimmer.

The advantages of using a thyristor dimmer on LED lighting are: low dimming cost, compatibility with existing circuits, no need for rewiring, and suitability for old renovation projects. The disadvantage is that the thyristor dimming performance is poor, which usually leads to a reduced dimming range; There is a matching issue between the dimming power supply and the dimming controller, which often leads to flashing lights; When applying dimming modules, there is generally a load requirement. If the load power is too low, flickering may occur, and mutual interference may occur when multiple lights are dimming. Due to the properties of the thyristor half controlled switch, which only has the function of turning on the current and cannot completely turn off the current, even if it is adjusted to the lowest level, there is still weak current passing through. The characteristic of LED micro current luminescence makes it difficult to use thyristor dimming to promote this wiring free LED dimming method.

The 0-10V dimming power supply is designed with a control chip. When connected to a 0-10V dimming device, the output current of the power supply is changed through a 0-10V voltage change to reduce light.

For example, when the 0-10V dimmer is modulated to 0V, the current drops to 0, and the light brightness is turned off (with a switch function). When the 0-10V dimmer is adjusted to a maximum of 10V, the output current will also reach 100% of the power output, and the brightness will also reach 100% (The output voltage remains unchanged). 0-10V Dimming principle: As mentioned above, the dimmer is only 0-10V. When the resistance dimmer is adjusted to 1V, the output current is also changed by 10%. If it is adjusted to 10V (maximum), the output current will also reach 100% of the power output, and the brightness will also reach 100% The output voltage remains constant

Note: 0-10V has no switching function and cannot be adjusted to the lowest off position. The advantage of 0-10V dimming is that there is no compatibility issue between the dimming power supply and the dimmer, and the dimming linearity is relatively good; Its disadvantage is that it requires an additional set of 0-10V signal lines, which is not suitable for old renovation projects.
