Efficient Lighting for Educational Institutions in United Arab Emirates

A United Arab Emirates college is saving some 28,000 kWh/Y, with an LED-for-HID retrofit at its gymnasium in 2019.

The school building is about 10years old and the ageing HID lighting needed to be upgraded for maintenance purposes and energy savings. These lights are illuminated at least eight hours a day.
The original lighting levels were 250 lux, significantly below the recommended standard of 550 lux for basketball courts.

The school also wanted a retrofit solution that would achieve a perfect lighting environment for school members.
To achieve the lighting level recommendations for basketball and minimise glare, and following head-to-head comparisons with the lights in schools. They choose RISE's completed retrofit solution with our IP65 ceiling lamp, flood lights, track lights, etc.

Crucially, the school wanted the tailored beam distribution of the led lamp, which is designed to direct the light to the floor without glare, rather than other LED retrofits that would have delivered more ambient light to the upper walls and ceiling.

PATIO downlights are used inside ceiling of the gym floor.       IP65 ceiling lamps are used outside in the corridor.

ARCTIC track panel lights are used for spotlight in the venue.   Our DRUM wall lamps(up and down) are used outside corridor.
It resulted in a two-and-half times higher lighting levels and a more even appearance on the gym floor.

The teachers and students saw the difference and backed the upgrade.
‘The lighting was much more even, very natural and with no glare’, said Justin, one of the School officials.
‘The new lights are much easier on the eyes and very bright on the floor’ a student Judy said.
The lamps deliver an average of 650 lux in the gym and lowered the energy consumption by over 27,888 kWh/Y.
The retrofit solution also eliminates significant maintenance time changing HID bulbs when they burn out ‘every three months or so’.
‘The new lighting filled all of our requirements – it gives out a better light, lowered our energy consumption and it has a there-year warranty’, concluded Justin.
